Three of us started OctoCrew: Olexii, Yaroslav, and Alina. Before it was a product, before it had a name, it was the way we got our own work done across three very different businesses.
The short version of our story is “we built an AI marketing crew.” That version skips the part that actually matters. We did not set out to build a company. We were running marketing inside three businesses in completely different niches, started handing pieces of the work to AI agents, and watched it pay off in every one of them. Only then did we realize we had built something other people needed too.
The same problem in three different niches
The three businesses had almost nothing in common. One was an ecommerce brand, one was a SaaS product, one was a service agency. Different products, different customers, different channels, different definitions of a good day. What they shared was the part nobody enjoys: the marketing work that repeats forever.
You know the list, because it is the same in every business. Pull yesterday’s numbers into a brief. Draft the day’s posts. Check the ad accounts before something quietly bleeds budget. Build the next campaign. Answer the tickets. None of it is hard. All of it is constant. And in each business, hiring a specialist for every lane was not on the table.
So the work landed on nights and weekends, and the most valuable thing we had, the time to actually think, kept getting eaten by the work that simply had to happen.
The first task we handed over
We were skeptical. The early experiments were small and low-stakes on purpose. The first real job we gave an agent was the morning performance brief: pull the numbers, flag what moved, suggest what to do about it.
It was not magic on day one. We corrected it. We told it which metrics we cared about, what “normal” looked like, when to raise a hand. But it listened, and it remembered. The brief that took one of us 40 minutes started showing up before we opened the laptop, already mostly right.
So we gave it the next thing. Then the next.
Approve first, then it earned its place
The rule we set early, almost by accident, turned out to be the whole model: nothing went out without one of us approving it. The agent drafted, we reviewed, we hit send or we sent it back.
That kept us safe, and it taught the agents fast. Week after week, the same workflows needed fewer corrections, until reviewing them felt like signing off on work we would have approved anyway. So we let the reliable ones run on their own, and kept the risky calls, the refunds, the big budget moves, the brand decisions, on approval where they belonged.
The output went up. The teams did not. The busywork stopped being ours.
Different businesses, the same result
Here is the part that turned an experiment into a conviction. It worked in all three.
Not in the one business that happened to suit it. In an ecommerce brand, a SaaS product, and a service agency, three businesses that had nothing to do with each other. Different niches, different audiences, different playbooks, and the same outcome every time: more work shipped, fewer hours lost to the repetitive parts, and a small team punching well above its size.
That is when we stopped wondering whether this was luck or a lucky fit. If it delivered in three places this different, the pattern was not the niche. The pattern was the work itself. And the work is the same shape in almost every business we have ever seen.
Why we decided to build it for other people
Every founder and small team we talked to had the exact problem we had just solved, three times over: more marketing to do than people to do it, no budget for a hire in every lane, and no patience for another dashboard or a heavy agency retainer.
We had already proven, to ourselves, that a crew of agents could carry that load across wildly different businesses. The only thing left was to make it repeatable, so any team could get the same crew without the months of trial and error we went through to find it.
